The Decatur Public Schools Foundation and Heart of Illinois Community Foundation gathered to dedicate the Ellsworth Dansby Jr. Memorial Statue in front of the school that proudly bears his name.

Created by renowned Decatur native and sculptor Preston Jackson, the bronze statue honors Dansby’s service as a mechanic with the Tuskegee Airmen.

Regional Superintendent Jill Reedy was honored to join DPS Superintendent Dr. Nicole Moody and community partners for this special celebration—a wonderful reflection of the strong partnership between DPS #61 and ROE #39.

A special thank you to donor Jack McCoy and the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation for helping make this beautiful tribute possible. What a meaningful way to honor Mr. Dansby’s legacy for generations to come!

What an incredible way to kick off the school year! Today our IMPACT Student Liaisons and district partners had the opportunity to learn from Heidy LaFleur as she shared powerful insights on the connection between brain health, trauma, and behavior. Her message challenged us to look beyond behaviors, understand the "why," and respond with empathy, self-regulation, and purpose. We are excited to put these strategies into practice as we support students throughout the year. Thank you, Heidy, for an inspiring and impactful day!
